Pancakes || Karen and Arthur

kazzmeow:

Her green-brown eyes looked up at the man who sat across from her at the table. The red’s stayed on him as she slowly chewed the pancakes as she swallowed, looking at him. “What do you know you actually can make good pancakes”, she teased softly. She knew that his cooking was always good. Pretty much flawless. For a moment, her eyes looked back down to the plate as she cut off another piece with her fork. “Could I get some water?”, she paused, looking back up at him. “Or whatever you have?”, she asked politely before chewing another piece.

Thomas Arthur Darvill, he was one of her best friends, right along Matt’s side of course. Something else was always there though, something more. However, she let it go. She always let her feelings go. They had to professional, and she never let herself fall for her co-stars…that could always be a mess. She also felt something more for Matt as well, but more didn’t mean being in love. It just meant they both mean a lot to her. There was at point when she thought she could possibly love Arthur, but maybe the writing was just really good and it was her being in character with Amy and Rory. She wouldn’t tell him. Why tell someone something that you’re not sure of? When you don’t really have your feelings sorted out.

Karen placed her fork down after picking up her napkin and dapping her lips gently. “It was hard to watch. I was crying, but I almost cry at everything and anything right?”, she laughed a little before tucking her red hair behind her ear, picking up her fork. “You’re having more than one by the way”, she stated as she stabbed a pancake soaked with plum sauce, with her fork and reached across, letting the pancake slip off her fork and land on his plate. She gave him a toothless smile, pursing her lips together. “Enjoy and savour your own cooking you master chef”. The green eyes girl placed her fork down once again. “I don’t think pancakes are a leftover type of food, babe”, she softly spoke, looking up at him as she nearly always called him babe.

Arthur gave her a playful weird look as she ate and complimented him on the food. “Of course I make good pancakes, what were you thinking? That I make pancakes out of bread batter, huh?” He chuckled lightly, standing up from his chair after she asked for a drink. “Yeah, of course,” he nodded, talking a small walk to the kitchen.  Taking out a cup, he took a deep breath. He couldn’t do this. He didn’t want to be mean, but he couldn’t. Once you develop feelings for a friend, you’re screwed right? The Brit shook his head, taking another deep breath as he stood up straight and poured some water into the glass. “You’ll ignore the feelings, you’ll ignore the feelings,” he mutter to himself quietly, walking out of the kitchen with the glass of water slowly.

This was wrong. This was all wrong. Any sensible person who hasn’t been exploited on international television would say that falling in love with your co-workers is one of the worst things that could happen. It’s the person you have to work with hours and hours everyday, so why ruin one of your safe places? He had to move on. Karen wouldn’t have feelings for him, obviously. It’s time to move on. Act like nothing ever happened - because nothing ever did right? Well, maybe eventually it would be some stupid story he would laugh about with his kids when he was older. “I used to like a co-worker,” he imagined himself saying. “Like, a crush crush, you know? Don’t ever do that.”

He placed the glass of water on the table, seating himself as Karen continued talking. “It was extremely hard to watch, yeah,” Arthur nodded, placing his napkin on his lap politely. “No, I wouldn’t say that. You don’t really cry at anything,” he shrugged, giving a smile as she tucked her hair behind her ear. Gosh, she was beautiful.. No, stop Arthur. He looked down just as the redhead slipped another pancake on his plate, his eyebrows raised. The brunette laughed after, glancing up at Karen and down at the plate. “Fine, fine, fine,” he beamed, sticking his tongue out playfully as he started working bites of the pancake into his mouth. “I would have to disagree,” he mumbled after swallowing three bites. “Pancakes are perfectly fine to have as a leftover food. C’mon, don’t you ever wish you had pancakes in your refrigerator when you’re hungry? It seems reasonable.”
